BLACK MAN, BLACK MAN!!

History was made tonight. I am proud to be part of such a monumental accomplishment for this country. Not until today, driving home from work, did I decide exactly who I was going to vote for; and I'm glad I did.

Although not everyone agrees with the outcome, we have to look past the "politics" (no pun intended) and remember that we are all Americans and we all want what is best for this country as a whole.

I heard a comment the other day that someone told me they read stating "anyone who votes for pro-abortion can't claim to be a Christian." I was appalled and just plain annoyed by that statement. This election is so much more than rights to abortion! The issue of abortion will NEVER go away! And I know that many Christians have similar opinions but wake up! We live in a day and age where things we don't agree with will continue to exist. I was also faced with a comment that stated, "we are 'preserving morality' by electing the republican candidate." I'm terribly sorry to inform many of you who feel that way - but the human race is moral or immoral because of a choice that is made to live life a certain way. Just like you and I. Just the way God intended by giving us a free-will to chose to be the people that we have decided to be. Electing a Red or Blue president will never change that. This is a HUGE deal for this generation. It is a movement toward change and its empowering to know that I was part of it. It is empowering to so many people and that's something that all of us need to embrace.

In his speech, Barack Obama said, "There are many of you who's vote I did not win. But I do hear your voice, and I need you and I will also be your President." I think if we can all understand the depth of that sentence we can be a nation that continues to stand in the midst of struggle.

I do not wish to offend anyone but I also refuse be seen as anything less than a Christian simply because I live in reality. Lets continue to pray for our country and pray for our new president!

Hello Elaine, this is Joey Navarro. Don't know if you remember me. I read your blog and had to comment on how much I agree with you. I too wrote a blog on my MySpace page called "Can I be a Democratic Christian?" I am glad you have written this, so much wisdom. We have to realize that we live in a realistic world and that there are some things that only God can take care of, so we should leave those issues to Him. We need to choose based on what is good for this nation and world as a whole. Thank you for this blog.

Good to hear your thoughts Elaine. While I do not agree with President Elect Obama, nor do I agree with many, many of his views, I will continue to pray for him, his administration, cabinet, etc. I am thankful you wrote your thoughts as I often wondered how some of my friends would vote for Obama---hot button issues aside---I am really curious as to the 'why's.

You are right voting is empowering...no matter whom we voted for...it is empowering because it's a wonderful right and privelege we have.

I am grateful that we live in a country where I can be absolutely passionate about the causes I believe in--even though I know passion does not equal right...I am equally grateful for the opportunity to be heard!

Amen sister! I totally agree and I am excited to think of the day when we can look back on an historic election, and I can say that I helped make that possible. I'm ready to put history behind us, and move on.

Can a Christian vote for Obama and still be a Christian? Absolutely! I am an informed Christian and I feel it's my responsibility to fight off this ignorant trend of "legislating morality." I know many Christians who are not "single issue" voters, and voted FOR Obama and FOR gay marriage. I did! :)

Also, could the abortion issue be more twisted and misinformed than it has been in this election? Who is anyone to say if I am a Christian or not based on who I voted for and their personal beliefs? Ouch. To be honest, that's pure stupidity. I have to say, I'm sure God isn't happy about people trying to take on His role. Don't play God, people. He didn't give you that job for a reason.

President-elect Obama has a complex pro-choice, anti-abortion stance that I agree with--simply put: God is the judge and has the answers. God should also decide at what point life begins and I don't think for a second we should begin to do that. If anyone attempts, then they sadly have developed a God-complex. And pro-choice people belief in the "sanctity of human life" just as much as pro-life people. Duh.
